chrilliams asked: Regarding singthesewordsatyourfuneral's question: "Black" is commonly acceptable for all people closely related to the African diaspora (non-Africans) especially Americans, (African American is also acceptable) however, Negro is never used (in America) unless referring to history or literature. A side fact: ALL people are of African decent and are of the African diaspora so saying...

singthesewordsatyourfuneral asked: Not directly relayed to Disney, but how do you mention that a character is of a different ethnicity without sounding racist? I feel like saying black or negro is insulting, African-American is too specific, and saying a character's skin is black is, well, rude. I know I'm mainly talking about people of African descent, but they're the ones I have the hardest time describing, because...

Anonymous asked: African East of the Sun West of the moon would be great! A lion instead of a polar bear? Troll Queen in the desert?
Anonymous asked: Re: the Little Mermaid as a Haida woman, Sedna is essentially her anti-counterpart, so Inuit may be more appropriate: en[.]wikipedia[.]org/wiki/Sedna_%28mythology%29 Personally, I'd also like to see her as Haitian, ala the Vodou Loa La Sirene/Mami Wata.

jafarface asked: ever heard of the HBO TV series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child? It was my only source for fairy tales that had characters that looked like me. One of the episodes had Beauty and the Beast set *in* Africa. There was a black Goldilocks with blonde dreads (set in Jamaica). There was a Mexican Cinderella. A Chinese Little Mermaid. Highly recommend everyone Youtubing it.

Anonymous asked: Do you know of any other racebending blogs? I would really love to follow some more, if there are any. Sorry this is sort of off topic.
Anonymous asked: i can sort of understand being discouraged by no characters to relate to, but my problem was I had bright red hair. definitely not a big deal compared to race but I remember feeling bad as a kid. it seemed all the red headed characters were portrayed as dorky unlovable, socially inept, or only ever the side kick. It made me feel like my hair was stupid. I can only imagine how it feels for persons...

linaloid asked: It really bothers me when people say "so - and - so character was the only person I had to look up to" because of the race. They don't have to be the same race for you to be able to look up to them. I am Caucasian, and I have looked up to all of them! This Tumblr is great and I love seeing characters drawn as a different race. They're amazing no matter what.

r2chi2 asked: Regarding that last ask, I liked that Kuzco didn't have a love interest in ENG. Maybe the reasons why he didn't have a love interest weren't very sound (apparently women aren't allowed to be people and teach the main character things and still be seen in a romantic light?), but I liked that there was a Disney movie that wasn't all about princesses and romanticism and all...

caelum-blue asked: On Incan Disney films: The Emperor's New Groove IS set in the Inca Empire. It was originally titled Kingdom of the Sun, and before it ran into production troubles it had a female llama herder who was meant to be Kuzco's love interest. I like The Emperor's New Groove, but I think I would've liked Kingdom of the Sun much better. (Check out ENG's wiki page to see the details...

Anonymous asked: I wanna see a Disney film set in the Inca civilization. Most of all because I want a Peruvian Disney heroine.
skysailour asked: I can't quite remember where I saw it, either here or on another blog, but I've seen a discussion that it's not *really* Disney promoting the white princesses, but that's what's being bought and sold. Not many Tianas/Mulans/Jasmines are being sold in comparison to Cinderellas/SBs/SWs so they don't create much merch with those characters, it's a loss of money....

misspepita asked: Apologies if this question has been asked before/the issue has been addressed before, but, could changing the ethnicity of a character be considered racebending (despite that fact that ethnicity =/= race)? For example, taking the (somewhat :/ ) French themed story of Beauty and the Beast, and fitting it to a Russian theme...?

kikikikikikit asked: I adore this blog. As a biracial girl (Native American and Czech), the only Disney princess I had to look up to was Pocahontas. And she really isn't considered a princess at all. When I saw the Tangled in India, I instantly fell in love with it. But I was thinking what about Tangled in Indonesia? The directors and writers said in the commentary they got the idea of the floating lanterns from...

Anonymous asked: I absolutely love this Tumblr. As a little Chinese-Filipino girl growing up in some of the whitest places ever (the Midwest United States and western Germany), it was hard for me to have Asian role models to look up to, other than my parents. Mulan really became one of my idols. So to see all of these Disney characters, in a racebent way, makes me almost want to compile a book of them or...

Jang Geum
quirkytaiwan:
I have a suggestion for the previous question!
Instead of bending characters like Mulan to be Korean (which may just make you look like you got two Asian cultures confused), you could research characters originating from the culture you want to depict as Disney characters.
For example, a Korean heroine that would be perfect for a modern Disney movie is Jang Geum. She was an...

Anonymous asked: If I change a princess/character who is Asian, black, etc., to a different culture within that race, is that wrong? For example, if I want to make Mulan Korean, or if I want to make Pocahontas part of a plains or desert tribe. I know you wrote about whitewashing, but I wasn't sure if this is wrong or not.
